Atlas.md Teams Up with Goodbill to Help DPC Doctors Guide Patients to Affordable Hospitals

PUBLISHED on april 15, 2025

Atlas.md, a leading electronic medical record (EMR) platform built for direct primary care (DPC) physicians, today launched a new integration with Goodbill to provide a hospital bill navigation tool that helps doctors and patients find nearby hospitals offering discounted or free care. With this partnership, DPC doctors using Atlas.md can now guide their patients to more affordable hospital options, adding a critical layer of support that extends care beyond the clinic and treats the patient as a whole.

Atlas.md DPC doctors can now guide patients to nearby hospitals that offer 501(r) discounts of up to 100% off.

Direct primary care is built on a foundation of trust, access, and transparency. But the moment a patient ends up in the hospital, they are often left to navigate a maze of billing codes, inflated charges, and confusing paperwork — all outside their doctor’s control. The Goodbill integration changes that.

Through the integration, DPC doctors can now guide patients — whether for an emergency or planned surgery — to nearby hospitals that offer 501(r) financial assistance discounts of up to 100% off. These discounts are legally required at nonprofit hospitals, but many patients don’t realize they may qualify. With just a few details like the patient’s household size and income, doctors can quickly generate a list of nearby hospitals offering potential savings.

Josh Umbehr, Atlas.md founder.

"DPC doctors are the ones who pick up the phone at 10 p.m., who fight to keep their patients out of medical debt, and who never say, 'That’s not my job,'" said Josh Umbehr, founder of Atlas.md.

"With Goodbill now built into Atlas.md, they can carry that same level of care beyond the doctor’s visit — helping patients find the right hospital facility, avoid surprise bills, and stay financially protected. It’s a big win for the doctors who go the extra mile, and the patients who count on them."

Goodbill then takes it from there: not only helping the patient apply for the 501(r) discount, but also reviewing their charges for coding errors or medically unnecessary care, and negotiating with the hospital on behalf of the patient. Goodbill typically saves patients 20-30% off their hospital bill — amounting to hundreds or even thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket costs.

It’s a big win for the doctors who go the extra mile, and the patients who count on them," said Josh Umbehr, founder of Atlas.md.

“We’re proud to support the DPC movement by partnering with Atlas.md,” said Patrick Haig, CEO and co-founder of Goodbill. “These physicians are redefining what it means to care for patients. We’re here to make sure that care doesn’t stop at the hospital door.”

The integration is available to all Atlas.md users starting April 15, 2025.
